Shmoop Essay Lab

Although most of us associate Shmoop.com with CliffNotes-type summaries that help students skip the reading, Shmoop does offer one innovative Web 2.0 tool: an interactive writing lab that will help students create a 5-paragraph essay. We will be giving this tool a critical look, to determine whether some of the pre-writing tools that are offered are worth learning from or even incorporating into an assignment; conversely, we'll be considering the limitations of the tools and the ways that it might disable student engagement in the writing process.

TEDucate Yourself!
Thinking about incorporating videos into your lesson plans? Worried that students will tune out? Multi-media can be a wonderful way to engage students, appeal to a wider range of learners, and differentiate lessons, but we as teachers understand the potential pitfalls of passive learning. With so much information on the web, it's time we educators learned how to take advantage of it.

Enter TED Ed.

By incorporating multiple choice or short answers questions, links to other resources, discussion questions, and more into a lesson plan, TED Ed helps educators address multiple cognitive dimensions around a single video! During our webinar, we will show you how teachers can build interactive lessons around videos to increase student interaction and learning.
